Erik Gutwasser is the Division President of Northern Europe and member of Mastercard’s European Leadership Team.
He is responsible for Mastercard in one of the world’s most innovative payment ecosystems, the Nordics, Baltics and the Netherlands.
Erik leads a partnership-oriented team, committed to leveraging Mastercard’s global strength and innovation to positively impact the lives of people in Northern Europe.
Northern Europe is home to several Mastercard acquisitions, including Recorded Future, Minna Technologies, Baffin Bay, Mastercard Open Banking (formerly Aiia), and Mastercard Payment Services (formerly Nets Corporate Services) resulting in a total team of 1.100 people in Northern Europe. Erik serves on the board of Mastercard Payment Services.
He joined Mastercard in 2013 as Head of Mastercard Advisors and has since held several customer-centric roles, including Country Manager positions. Since 2018, he has been responsible for Nordics and Baltics. In 2024, his role expanded to include the Netherlands, marking the formation of the broader Northern Europe Division.
Erik has over 15 years of experience in strategy and business leadership. Prior Mastercard he worked for one of the leading global management consulting firms. He holds a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management from Linköping Institute of Technology.
